Single droplets to particles - size, shape, shell thickness and porosity analyses using X-ray computed tomography

•Single droplet drying experiments are performed in an acoustic levitator.•The internal structure of the particles is characterized using micro X-ray CT.•Analysis approaches to quantify features such as shell thickness are introduced.•The composition and drying conditions exhibit a large influence on these parameters.
