Development of transparent composites using wheat straw fibers for light-transmitting building applications

•Delignified wheat straw as feedstock for making transparent bio-composites.•The 3 mm thick composite with 10 wt% fiber has 88.11 % transmittance and 25.59 % haze.•The transmittance decreases and the haze increases as the thickness increases.•The transmittance decreases and the haze increases as the fiber content increases.•The composite has excellent mechanical properties, heat insulation and durability.
