摘要
The aim of this study is to evaluate, on the basis of clinical and instrumental analysis, the prophylactic biomedical parameter after prosthetic treatment of primary teeth with prefabricated zirconium crowns by a modified methodology. The study included 78 children (38 girls and 40 boys) aged 5 to 10 years, who were subjected to screening examinations of the oral mucosa, using the Stomatoscope AFS apparatus. A total of 104 prefabricated zirconium crowns (Nusmile, USA) were placed by a modified methodology to 52 of the children without signs of pathological soft tissue changes. Six months after the end of the treatment, the prophylactic biomedical parameter was evaluated according to different criteria. No plaque accumulation was observed in 76.9% of the crowns, and the autofluorescence examinations of the adjacent soft tissues identified them as normal, without signs of inflammation. In 96.2%, no carious lesions were observed around the marginal edges, and only 11.5% showed visible signs of antagonist-tooth wear. Prefabricated zirconium crowns showed excellent retention in 80.8% of the cases.Restoration of decayed primary teeth with prefabricated zirconium crowns is highly effective in relation to preventive treatment. The autofluorescence method is fast, non-invasive and painless and enables the visualization and diagnosis of changes in the marginal gingiva and oral mucosa in children.
