Increasing Solar Photovoltaic Penetration Using Thermal Energy Storage

Thermal energy storage (TES) is a mature technology, deployed throughout the world, particularly in the southern United States. Through modeling and simulation of Arizona State University's system, it has been determined that TES is a cost- effective way to increase solar photovoltaic (PV) penetration. This novel management method enables significant increases in PV, while alleviating many of the problems associated with traditional TES management schemes. This research includes a study of feasibility of the proposed management scheme.
