Zinc(II) complexes constructed from an adamantane-functionalized pyridine Schiff base - Influence of the counterion on the supramolecular organization by means of C-H⋅⋅⋅O, C-H⋅⋅⋅N, C-H⋅⋅⋅π and π⋅⋅⋅π interactions

•Reactions of (E)-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)adamantan-1-amine (L) with zinc salts have been investigated.•Complexes [ZnL(AcO)2] (1), ZnL(NO3)2] (2), [ZnL(N3)2] (3), and [ZnL2(AcO)][ClO4] (4) were prepared and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy.•Complexes 1–4 and l have been authenticated by single crystal X-ray crystallography.•The 3D Hirshfeld surfaces have been mapped to study the intermolecular interactions.
