Electric field-assisted synthesis/sintering cerium oxide: 5 wt.% gadolinium oxide

•Solid solution was accomplished by applying an electric field at 1000 °C to pellets of gadolinia mixed to ceria.•That solid solution was also partially sintered due to Joule heating provided by the electric current through the pellets.•Solid solution was ascertained by XRD and impedance spectroscopy, and sintering by scanning electron microscopy.
