•Pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis in ICH patients was associated with a significant reduction in pulmonary embolism.•Pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis in ICH, was associated with a non-significant reduction in DVT, VTE, and death.•Thromboprophylaxis in ICH, was associated with a non-significant increase in hematoma expansion and major disability.
