Serotonin 1B receptor effects on response inhibition are independent of inhibitory learning

•Mice lacking 5-HT1BR showed increased impulsivity in the instrumental 5-choice serial reaction time test.•In Pavlovian conditioned inhibition, 5-HT1BR KO mice had deficits in withholding responding but intact inhibitory learning.•Absence of the 5-HT1BR caused increased appetitive Pavlovian conditioned responding to cues in a zero contingency condition.•Behavioral components of increased impulsivity can be investigated in Pavlovian paradigms.
