Muscularis macrophages: trained guardians of enteric neurons

An intestinal helminth infection induces a tolerogenic phenotype of resident muscularis macrophages protecting the enteric nervous system against subsequent bacterial infections,an effect mediated by eosinophil-derived IL-4 and IL-13.
