Demonstration of Flexible Polyimide Fibers for Dense Optical Packaging

We have demonstrated a flexible polyimide fiber as an optical waveguide from soluble 6-6 polyimide. The diameter of this fiber reached to 30 μ m, and with flexibility of 3mm diameter. It shows transmission loss less than 0.1dB/cm with polyimide cladding layer and has observed clear single-TEM00-mode-pattern after 3cm transmission.
