Green Routing of Freight Vehicles

Freight transportation impacts on the environment through what are known as externalities. Route planning for freight vehicles has traditionally focused on reducing the economic impact of freight transportation. This paper presents ways in which emissions can explicitly be embedded into such plans alongside economic factors, and describes a number of optimization models that can be used to produce transport plans aimed to reduce their impact on the environment.
