咳嗽作为人体的防御神经反射,有助于呼吸道排出分泌物和有害因素,但另一方面,频繁剧烈的咳嗽会严重困扰患者的生活和工作.《黄帝内经》首见"咳嗽"病名,认为其是由于肺失宣降而气逆做声,有痰或无痰,是多种肺系疾病的主证,也可作为独立病证.其病程变化受到时令气候、地理环境、患者体质等多方面因素的密切影响.咳嗽的治疗历来多从外感和内伤展开.
