•2D driving of 3D motion models seem promising to go real-time in radiotherapy.•Locally adjusted 3D motion models are slower but more precise in the beam path.•Combining multiple deformation fields allows to locally tune a global 3D motion model.•Precomputed weight maps are used to combine multiple deformation fields.
