•The first study to characterize pharmacotherapy prophylaxis in an ERAS® program•Use of guideline-consistent antibiotic and anti-coagulants was associated with low complication rates•Length of stay in colorectal and gynecologic oncology groups was highly influenced by total morphine milligram equivalents, incidence of post-operative nausea and vomiting, and multi-modal anesthesia•Seven-day re-admission rate was low in both groups, and more men were re-admitted within 30 days
