•Sexual assault survivors (SAS) are especially vulnerable during global pandemics.•Resilience levels in SAS were negatively associated with depression and anxiety.•COVID-19 induced changes in mood and anxiety levels mediated these associations.•Interventions targeting resilience and pandemic-induced changes may assist SAS.
