Liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, induces ADAM10-dependent ectodomain shedding of RAGE via AMPK activation in human aortic endothelial cells

•Liraglutide renders HAECs resistant to AGEs by causing ectodomain shedding of RAGE.•ADAM10 is implicated in RAGE ectodomain shedding induced by liraglutide.•Liraglutide increases ADAM10 activity by causing its cell surface translocation.•AMPK activation is required for the translocation of ADAM10 to the cell surface.
