Deep-learning fully-automated neuronal cell segmentation might allow to evaluate vastly more cells and gain more thorough insights into the characteristics of the hippocampal subregions. We highlighted differences between hippocampal subregions and extending our work on larger datasets could provide groundwork for automated hippocampal labelling and refine knowledge of Alzheimer's disease.
