Abstract
The paper focuses on mobile IoT networks that can be used for various emerging mobile applications in sectors involving measurement collection and coordinated actuation, such as Smart Transport, Agriculture, Cities and Industry. The diverse features of each related use case type impose specific networking requirements in terms of supported topologies, node connectivity and packet forwarding mechanisms to allow the required exchange of information and actuation commands between remote nodes and information processing and control entities. The paper will describe the challenges that are identified in representative use case types, based on their mobility, coverage and delay requirements and are related to the Sense-Decide-Act (S-D-A) loop. It will then highlight different mechanisms employed by IoT standards for addressing such mobility-dependent requirements and will effectively match them to the relevant use case types, highlighting also open issues.
