Balanced Data Traffic over Internet of Things Network to Reduce Power Consumption Using Distributed Scheme

In recent years, emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) based systems are growing rapidly. IoT is used in many applications in daily life. IoT end device equipped with limited resources such as processor, memory, and battery power. In smart cities or other applications, where highly IoT devices deployed, consumed the battery power during the operation of the device will be caused the whole network to malfunction. This paper proposed a traffic distributed method to reduce the power consumption of IoT end devices. The proposed scheme uses to balance the traffic of collected data over multi hops path rather than directly transmits data to a base station. Therefore, each IoT node in this scheme will send the sensing data to the nodes within its transmission range based on distance and residual battery power. The simulation results shown that the proposed distributed method outperforms the centralized one in terms of power consumption which leads to maximizing the lifetime of IoT network. Furthermore, no packets loss in the proposed method even though the packets transmit over multiple IoT devices to reach the base station. Accordingly, the proposed scheme will reduce the overall IoT network cost due to minimizing the number of base stations in monitoring environments.
