Transnational Challenges in Learning and Teaching in Management Education

In this paper, the researchers explore lessons learnt from a case study of a transnational management education (TME) project designed as part of a university global program. The project involved undergraduate students across an umbrella course within the management discipline, offered in Australia and Singapore. It aimed to empower students to contribute to decisions within diverse contexts; to work collaboratively, and pursue continuous personal development of knowledge and skills related to their future as management professionals. We found feedback issues, TME pedagogical issues, and learning and teaching culture in the TME environment are perceived as key challenges in the management of TME. We also found that students in the TME programs are shown to culturally adapt to different learning and teaching approaches, and are academically engaged debunking the stereotypes about their mono-cultural learning style. We suggest that TME stakeholders should be engaged in the discussion on pedagogy as part of a broader discussion concerning ideologies of internationalisation and diversity, as participants in the program are fully aware of the importance of the local and global context.
