AbstractThis reflective narrative shares an experience of immersion at the highly political “intersectional” coalface of gendered, class and racially based maternity services research, practice and learning in London, UK. I initially set out to apply Levin & Greenwoods’ (Handbook of action research: participative inquiry and practice. SAGE, London, 2001, p. 103) “pragmatic action research” approach to transform a small component of universities and health services into “learning communities”.
