Characterization of insecticidal Cry1Cb2 protein from Bacillus thuringiensis toxic to Myzus persicae (Sulzer)

•The Bacillus thuringiensis strain GP919 was isolated from a corpse of Myzus persicae.•The aphicidal effect of Cry1Cb toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis strain GP919 caused mortality rates above 80% at 10 µg Myzus persicae.•The major protein (∼130 kDa) expressed by the strain GP919 showed an overall 100% amino acid sequence identity to the reported Cry1Cb protein from Bacillus thuringiensis.•This is the first report of toxicity of the Cry1Cb toxin to Myzus persicae.
