摘要
•Young adults exposed to maternal prenatal tobacco use had increased risks of experiencing symptoms of anxiety at age 20 years.•A dose-response association was also observed between maternal prenatal tobacco exposure and the risk of experiencing symptoms of anxiety in young adults.•Early screening and prevention of prenatal tobacco exposure may reduce the risk of anxiety in young adult offspring.•There was insufficient statistical evidence for an association between maternal prenatal alcohol exposure and the risk of experiencing symptoms of anxiety in young adults.
