Parseval’s Theorem Used for the Inductor Analysis in High-Frequency Boost Converters

Today, the tendency is to decrease the power converters size increasing the operation frequency. This requires the development of innovative methodologies for the selection and design of the associated inductors. This paper proposes a methodology for the inductor analyses and selection in power converters using Parseval’s theorem. The analysis provides a model to describe the relation between the inductor losses in the time domain and the frequency domain given the known parameters of the quality factor (Q) and the self-resonance frequency (SRF). The simulation results provide insights about the impact of the quality factor (Q) and the contribution of the inductor current harmonics to the total power losses. An experimental setup validates the proposed approach.
