The nature of the industrial loads has been reforming with advancements in technology and revolutions in industries. Since numerous amounts of power electronic devices and drives such as converters, inverters and soft switching drives are used in modern power systems and most of the industrial loads are nonlinear, these induce a considerable amount of power quality problems such as harmonics and interharmonics to the utility grid, which adversely affects the operation of other loads that are connected to the same grid. This has brought about concerns regarding harmonics and its mitigation techniques. This paper discusses about the various filtering methodologies to mitigate harmonics in grid systems along with a comparative study of the total harmonic distortion (THD) levels in the waveform of source current when different filtering methods are employed.
