Aqueous Al-Ion Batteries In article number 2101514, Xinhua Liu, Dennis Y. C. Leung, and co-workers propose a high-performance aqueous Al-ion battery with a SWCNT cathode and an aluminum foil anode. A water-in-salt electrolyte is used to provide multiple electrochemical species so that AlCl4− ions can be extracted and Al3+ ions can be inserted from/into the SWCNT cathode during discharging, providing a high-energy-density output. This low-cost battery technology is expected to be utilized for large-scale renewable energy storage systems.
