A V-band Array Antenna Made of Liquid Crystal Polymer

We present a V-band array antenna operating from 57 to 71 GHz using liquid crystal polymer (LCP). In order to achieve a wide beamforming range in the horizontal direction only and a relatively high gain, a sub-array antenna consisting of four patches arranged in a row is applied. Each sub-array antenna is fed from the center in order to prevent changing of the radiation direction when frequency changes. The layer structure with LCP substrate consists of wiring layer, ground, antenna layer, and parasitic antenna layer from the bottom. Measurement shows that S11 is less than -10 dB and gain is higher than 9 dBi in range from 57 to 71 GHz.
