Numerical Simulation on the Evolution of Compartment Fire with the Air Curtain Jet Condition

This paper simulates the over-ventilated compartment fire and its ejected plume evolutions under different air curtain jet velocity conditions, revealing the change behavior of temperature profile inside and outside of the compartment. The results show that as the air curtain jet velocity increases, the temperature inside is raised up slightly, and the high temperature zone is enlarged, while temperature tends to be uniform inside. The reason is that the injection airflow restricts the hot gas exchange through the opening of the compartment, in which the accumulation effect takes advantage. On the other hand, the temperature of interior and exterior corner are also affected. In addition, the radial and vertical temperature profile outside the compartment are somewhat reduced while the plume axis gradually deviates from the facade, which would be beneficial to suppress the formation of the three-dimensional fire spread on the facade. Finally the optimum air curtain jet velocity is acquired and discussed.
