Experimental Observation of Liquid Co2 Discharge from the Emergency Release System's Coupler of a Loading Arm During an Emergency Shutdown

Emergency Release System (ERS) for liquified CO2 (LCO2) loading arms is a fundamental technology for the implementation of carbon capture, and storage (CCS). This study aims to understand the behavior of discharged LCO2 from the ERS coupler during an emergency shutdown through experiment. The formation of dry ice makes the behavior of sudden LCO2 discharge unpredictable. Here, we discuss the unique experiment apparatus designed to reproduce the discharging process. Initial findings from the experiment is also shared.
