Experimental study on hfc-161 mixture as an alternative refrigerant to hcfc-22

A ternary near-azeotropic mixture of HFC-161 as an alternative refrigerant to HCFC- 22 is proposed in this paper.Experimental tests under different working conditions were performed on a vapor compression refrigeration setup which was originally designed for R410A.Experimental results showed that the COP of this new mixture is slightly higher than that of R410A,the discharge temperature is slightly lower than that of R410A.The condensing pressure and evaporating pressure of this new mixture are about 10% lower than those of R410A,and the cooling capacity and the power consumption decreased by 4.3% and 4.8% respectively.This new mixture has an ODP of zero and a GWP smaller than that of R410A.It could be expected as a promising retrofit refrigerant to HCFC-22.
