The interaction of 17 MeV polarised tritons with 30Si

Abstract Analysing power and cross-section distributions have been measured for the reactions leading to the triton, deuteron and α particle exit channels initiated by the t + 30 Si system at 17 MeV. The elastic and non-elastic data are analysed using the optical model and DWBA, respectively. Description of the elastic scattering using fully phenomenological and semi-microscopic potentials results in unconventional spin-orbit potentials not only compared to the t + A ( A > 40) analysis but also the 3 He + 30 Si findings. Inelastic scattering analysis to the second 2 + state provides evidence for 30 Si being an anharmonic vibrator, whilst the analysing power data for the 0 + and 2 + states at higher energy are consistent with these transitions resulting from two (quadrupole) phonon excitations. The spin-orbit potential describing elastic scattering is found to be incompatible with that required for the DWBA description of the non-elastic distributions. Unlike the cross-section data the analysing power data are found to highlight the limitations of the DWBA approach.
