•Isothermal hydrogen sorption kinetics of Zr-Ti based AB2 alloy hydride is modeled.•Effect of temperature and pressure on the single step and multiple steps hydrogen sorption kinetics.•The rate limiting step for the kinetics is jointly defined by H diffusion and a nucleation and growth mechanism of the hydride.
