Pet cats (Felis catus) from urban boundaries use different habitats, have larger home ranges and kill more prey than cats from the suburbs

•Cats living next to natural areas have larger home ranges, using nearby natural habitats.•Cats living next to natural areas returned over twice as many prey than suburban cats.•Mammal returns greatly increased with natural habitat availability, but bird returns did not.•The intersection of urbanization and prey availability may alter the impact of pet cats on wildlife.
