Mach 4 Flow Velocimetry with 100-kHz PLEET and PIV in AEDC/AFRL Tunnel D

Picosecond Laser Electronic Excitation Tagging (PLEET) velocimetry and Particle imaging Velocimetry (PIV) at a 100-kHz rate were demonstrated in Mach 4 flow conditions at AFRL Tunnel D employing a burst-mode laser system. The velocity distribution in the wake behind the wedge model was measured. Successful tracking of flow velocity was demonstrated at a 100 kHz repetition rate and provided time-resolved velocity data for turbulent supersonic flows (~600 m/s). The increase in repetition rate provides better capability to perform high-fidelity time-resolved velocimetry measurements in supersonic¬–hypersonic flow environments.
