•Nozzle Inclination angle (NIA) and swirl combustor are introduced in a LTB gasifier.•This system positively affects tar reduction in producer gas (7.4 mg/Nm3).•NIA and swirl combustor increases thermal homogeneity in the partial oxidation zone.•Different gasification parameters are employed to optimize performance.•Recycling ratio and equivalence ratio of 0.35 gives the lowest tar content.
