Cathode Materials for Rechargeable Aqueous Zn Batteries

The high cost, and low abundance in natural resources hinder the applications of Li-ion batteries in large-scale energy storage batteries. To seek alternatives to Li-ion batteries, aqueous multivalent metal ion batteries are considered to be a promising option. In particular, aqueous Zn batteries (ZBs) become an ideal candidate due to its high safety and natural abundance. However, developing a suitable cathode material for Zn-ion battery with good structure stability and excellent electrochemical activity is still a grand challenge. Herein, this chapter presents the recent developments of various cathode materials in ZBs. Based on the collected literature, various optimization strategies for enhancing the performance of ZBs are briefly introduced. Further, opinions on research challenges and perspectives on future research directions are provided.
