Compound GRIN Lens Fanbeam Antenna for Wide-angle Scanning

A Ka-band fanbeam GRIN lens antenna using two GRIN lenses for enhanced beamscan is proposed and validated in full-wave simulation. Over the band of interest, the two-lens system achieves an average maximum scan loss of 2 dB for a 100° field-of-view corresponding to a scan loss envelope of cos 1 . 1 (θ). The total on-axis depth of the system is reduced by > 50% by incorporating a 90° bend in the parallel plate waveguide.
