摘要
Parasitic fibroid is an expression used to indicate a myoma of extrauterine blood supply. Although uterine fibroids are the most common female tumors, parasitic fibroids are considered a rare pathologic entity of unclear explanation. We present a case of a huge parasitic fibroid attached to the jejunum and completely separated from the uterus manifested to emergency department by small intestinal obstruction. The patient also had multiple subserous fibroids that share the same histological features with the mass attached to the small intestine. The patient underwent laparotomy and mass excision with the direct repair of jejunal serosal tears in addition to hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Although parasitic leiomyoma is a rare condition, it should be included in the differential diagnosis in females presenting with pelvic or abdominal masses; pre-operative diagnosis is difficult, and despite careful clinical examination and cross-sectional imaging, sometimes the final diagnosis cannot be made except after laparotomy and histopathological analysis of the specimen.
