Preliminary conceptual design and neutroncis analysis of a heat pipe cooled traveling wave reactor

•A 65.5 MWth heat pipe cooled traveling wave reactor (HPTWR) design is proposed.•The enrichment of fuel for the HPTWR has been selected and operation time of the core has been determined.•The HPTWR exhibits an excellent operation capability in power output, economy of fuel, operation time and burnup comparing to existing heat pipe reactors.
