New matrix certified reference materials for the measurement of trace elements in swine and chicken compound feed

•The composition of matrix and Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn elements in CRMs maintained consistency with the actual feed.•The ID-ICP-MS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and FAAS methods were utilized in collaborative characterization program.•Uncertainty evaluation based on multiple laboratory characterization using different methods was conducted.•New matrices to determine Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn elements in swine and chicken compound feed CRMs were developed.
