Highlights One-dimensional CoSe 2 nanorods supported on three-dimensional microspheres were prepared via spray pyrolysis. Nanorods were coated by N-doped graphitic C and polydopamine-derived C. The unique nanostructure exhibits exceptional cycling stability (5000 cycles at 2.0 A g −1 ).
