Seasonal inundation dynamics and water balance of the Mara Wetland, Tanzania based on multi-temporal Sentinel-2 image classification

•A Random Forest method is trained to classify wetland seasonal inundation dynamics.•73 Sentinel-2 scenes show intra- and inter-annual inundation patterns.•The seasonal wetland dynamics follow a consistent bi-modal regime.•River flow and local precipitation are both key for Mara wetland water balance.
