Modified PCL/PEG/GelMA electrospun blends reduced biofilm formation
Materials Letters(2022)
摘要
One of the most challenges regarding wound healing is the microbial infection. It can increase healthcare cost and antibiotic resistance. At the present manuscript, the antibacterial effect of electrospun blends was reported. These ultrathin blends were designed merging polycaprolactone (PCL), polyethylene glycol (PEG) and gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA). PCL:PEG:GelMA was for the first time modified with glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (GTMAC) in attempt to add a quaternary amine group. We characterized the morphology and chemical structure of the blends. Biofilms from Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis evaluated the antibacterial activity of the blends. Bacteria cells are negatively charged while the addition of the quaternary amine group in the blend caused an increasing in the reactive positive charge, killing more bacteria.
