摘要
Mosquitoes are the most important single group of insects in terms of public health importance, which transmit a number of diseases such as filariasis, dengue, malaria and chickungunya fever. Some species transmit major disease like, Aedes aegypti, which is a vector of dengue disease distributed throughout tropical as well as subtropical zones. The continuous application of synthetic insecticides causes development of resistance in vector species, biological magnification of toxic substances through the food chain and adverse effects on environmental quality and non-target organisms including human health. Application of active toxic agents from plant extracts as an alternative mosquito control strategy was available from ancient times. To determine biologically active compounds β-sitosterol and Saponin from the petroleum ether fruit extract of C. melo which is used against the larvae of Aedes aegypti. The Larval mortality was observed after 24h exposure and highest larval mortality was found in petroleum ether fruit and leaf extract of C. melo.
