•New aqueous three-phase systems formed by PEG, PVP, salt and H2O were characterized.•Top, middle, and bottom phases are enriched with PEG, PVP, and salt, respectively.•Tie-planes are formed by the phase and overall compositions points.•The temperature increase or the addition of Cu(II) ions causes a phase inversion.
