Treatment strategies for anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) now target a narrow range of hemoglobin (Hb) values because of data from clinical trials demonstrating the potential harm of targeting higher values. It is sometimes assumed that patients with CKD are similar with respect to Hb distribution. However, Hb varies with geography, sex, cause, and stage of CKD. To robustly describe the variability of Hb, we conduct a global collaborative study within the ISN International Network of CKD cohorts (iNET-CKD).
