摘要
Recycling of plastic waste is an effective way that could prevent our planet from drowning in plastic pollution. The work presents chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) from plastic polymers, including low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP). The successful synthesis of SWNTs from the polymers is attributed to the robustness of the designed cobalt catalyst supported by porous magnesia (Co-MgO), the porosity of which constrains the mobility of reduced Co nanoparticles, thus facilitating the nucleation of small diameter SWNTs. In addition, the approach is extended for catalyzing the production of SWNTs from plastic wastes, such as food packaging film and mask melt-blown filter. The proof-of-concept advance demonstrates the potential of plastic waste itself as feedstock for the production of high-value carbon nanomaterials. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
