A Framework for Revising Psychology Practice Guidelines: Reflections on the Development of the APA Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Sexual Minority Persons

We provide a record of the various consideration, approaches, and processes we employed when revising the Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Sexual Minority Persons (American Psychological Association [APA], 2021). In addition to discussing social, political, and cultural contexts, we provide an account of Task Force selection, initial objectives and starting points for the writing, and the manner in which we received and incorporated feedback. Further, we provide an historical account that contextualizes the production of the Guidelines and conclude by offering considerations that may be beneficial to future committees tasked with the responsibility of revising professional psychology practice guidelines.
