CARTILAGE ANABOLISM IS HIGHLY REGULATED BY MIRNAS IN RESPONSE TO OA STRESS

Purpose: Deficient joint tissue anabolism is an important contributor to the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA). While corticosteroids reduce catabolic factors, and remain as a mainstay of OA treatment, there are no FDA-approved medications for rescuing anabolic processes in OA. Due to increases in population aging and obesity, failure to develop therapeutic strategies for OA will result in the unfortunate realization of the CDC’s projected 49% rise in arthritis prevalence from 54 to 78 million adults in the US by 2040.
