SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIFUNGAL EVALUATION OF SOME NOVEL Mo(VI) COMPLEXES

YY Interaction of tetrachlorooxomolybdenum with sodium salts of oximes HON=C(CH3)Ar (Ar = C4H3S, C4H3O or C5H4N) and Schiff bases HOC(R)CHC(R')=NC6H5 (where, R = R' = CH3 or C6H5; R = CH3 and R' = C6H5) in 1:2 molar ratio in acetonitrile yielded dichlorooxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of the type [MoOCl2{ON=C(CH3)Ar}(2)] and [MoOCl2{OC(R)CHC(R')=NC6H5}(2)]. All these newly synthesized complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic, H-1, C-13 - NMR and FAB mass spectral studies. The anticandidal study carried out on complexes of the type [MoOCl2{ON=C(CH3)Ar}(2)] against Candida albicans showed that the complexes [MoOCl2{ON=C(CH3)C4H3O}(2)] and [MoOCl2{ON=C(CH3)C5H4N}(2)] are biologically active against this strain.
